What is “Bleisure” travel? https://bizandleisuretravel.com/what-is-bleisure-travel/ https://bizandleisuretravel.com/what-is-bleisure-travel/#respond Fri, 10 Mar 2023 13:44:59 +0000 https://bizandleisuretravel.com/?p=674 Bleisure travel is a type of travel where a person combines business and leisure activities during a trip. The term “bleisure” is a combination of the words “business” and “leisure.”

In bleisure travel, a person may travel for business purposes, such as attending a conference, meeting, or networking event, but also take some time to enjoy the destination by exploring the local sights, experiencing the culture, or engaging in recreational activities.

Bleisure travel has become increasingly popular in recent years as people seek to make the most of their business trips and combine work with leisure. It can help reduce stress and increase job satisfaction, as well as provide an opportunity to explore new destinations and cultures.

What does this mean for you as a business traveler?

Attending a conference in Nashville, TN? Why not extend the trip one night and see a show at the Grond Ole Opry? Miami tradeshow? A day at the beach or driving down to the Florida Keys is a great idea!

If the pandemic has taught us nothing else, time is finite. So if you’ve never been to London and have to visit your European office, tack on one extra day and see the city! The airfare is covered, so line up your activities!

What if you don’t travel for work, but are able to work remotely?

Does your employer have a policy about remote work that you need to be in the exact same home office every day you remote in? So why are you looking out the same window every day? A remote work week doesn’t have to involve airfare, a passport, or another country. You can drive to another city and set up shop for the week!

One thing you should not forget… time zone changes! Keep an eye on those meeting times!

What does this mean for the hospitality industry?

This is probably the most interesting piece of bleisure travel. Think about the hotels you’ve stayed in as a business traveler. They offer speedy check-in, good wifi, occasionally a comfortable desk in the hotel room, and maybe a “grab and go” style bistro in the lobby.

Now think of your favorite hotel you’ve stayed at on vacation! Typically you get a warm welcome, an itinerary of events at the resort, information about the dining options on-site, and possibly a review of things you can do locally near the hotel.

What a difference! Well, now put the two experiences in a jar and give it a good shake! Your business-only hotel will be a little friendlier as they want you to stick around a little longer. You might see a rise in happy hours for guests to come and mingle in the lobby restaurant. There is an opportunity for hotels to partner with local businesses to offer dining experiences and activities to capture the local flavor.

Nothing is stopping you from becoming a bleisure traveler!

The two things that usually keep people from traveling are time and money. If you are heading to a city for work, your airfare is usually covered by your business. The travel to and from your destination is already expected as it is part of the business trip. Extending a day to see the sights and experience where you are will cost you one night in a hotel and one day of vacation time.

And it doesn’t need to be a big city or an entirely different country! Take a morning walk to find a tiny coffee shop. Talk to the locals and find a park, a museum, a music venue, or something else you’ve never done.

Our booking site offers thousands of curated activities around the globe. All you need to do is tell us where you are and we’ll provide a list of walking tours, dining experiences, beer and wine tours, and more!

And you don’t need to be on vacation to try this! Need an idea for this weekend?
